I knew what I was getting into. Great bike with a fantastic sound, handling confidence inspiring. Wheelbase was shortened a bit to Nothing went wrong, nothing fell off, was reasonably comfortable, even with a Torquay – Dover – Charlerio trip in one day in the pouring rain it didn’t miss a beat. The more upright riding position is a bonus too. Triumph’s original Daytona T carved out a nice little three-cylinder niche for itself in a sportbike landscape rapidly becoming overgrown with V-twins and inline-fours back in Confidence inspiring but never scary well sometimes.
The mirrors work OK if you spend a bit of time to adjust them to how you want. Fitted with an advanced fuel-injection system designed by the French firm Sagem, the engine produced a remarkable peak power figure of 97kW bhptogether with the trademark torquey mid-range and soulful sound of the inline three-cylinder design.

The high bar mod is highly recommended. Single sided swing arm, minor engine mods and smoother gear change. The fuel-injection system was changed from a bypass-regulated-rail to a returnless-rail system. This latest version reverted to a double-sided swingarm to reduce weight and improve stiffness, and new bodywork sharpened the styling of the Daytona. Triumph’s excellent build quality and enviable reliability add further to the Daytona’s all-round appeal. What you see it is what you get – there’s no dumbing down or anything forgiving about the raw, unbridled power, frightful acceleration and one of the best handling platforms around.
